Ligfaerd - Dagen for os - natten for eder

LIGFAERD - Dagen for os - natten for eder (ANCIENT DARKNESS Productions CD 2016)
I was really looking forward for this album. A couple of years ago I got "Promo MMXIV" cassette (limited just to 30 copies!), which was announcing the coming of "Dagen for os - natten for eder" and I liked this promotional recording so much that I knew that the album should be fuckin great. Later one of these songs appeared also on a split 7" with Grigorien titled " den yderste dag / Matthævs 13:42", but for the release of "Dagen for os - natten for eder" I had to wait a little bit more. Finally it's out through (sadly now closed) Ancient Darkness Productions and you can be sure that this album didn't disappoint me at all. It's strong, worthy and recommendable black metal effort, with great quality. So, if you masturbate with the sounds of last Marduk records, if you dig Mayhem, if you worship sick and filthy aura of Funeral Mist records and even obscurity and grimness of mid-era Darkthrone, then Ligfaerd is for you.
Ligfaerd definitely sounds more or less like a mixture of the bands, which I just mentioned. Their music is filled with great uncompromising and aggressive, often fast and always vicious sounding black metal. The riffage is sharp and relentless, basically derived of any melodic patterns, but somehow the music can sometimes sound quite memorable and catchy, especially when the tempo slows down. I like these riffs a lot and the atmosphere that is in the music is simply perfect. Great vocals also, Sod (who, by the way, is also member of Ogdru Jahad and Psychomorphisdid killer job, even if his voice is quite similar to Arioch's. I have to say that such vocal performance gives a lot to the whole sound of the music. It gives more sick and darker feeling to it, but it also adds more viciousness and completes the music. It wouldn't sound as good if the vocals were just average.
The whole album is really even, with great songs from start to finish. But especially with such tracks as "Skærsildsriten", " et leje af gløder" or "Opslugt af djævelens malstrøm" (which kind of reminds me old Marduk, like "Untrodden Path" for example) it's just a fantastic listen and really strong and crushing black metal. The production is another great value of "Dagen for os - natten for eder", I think. It keeps the harshness and obscurity of black metal, but at the same time it all sounds pretty well and relatively clean. Not only the guitar tone is fantastic and drums doesn't sound like plastic, but also the bass is well audible. I suppose the only thing, which I don't like about the album is the artwork... but that's something less important and surely it doesn't influence the listening in even slightest way.
Standout tracks: "Skærsildsriten", " et leje af gløder", "Opslugt af djævelens malstrøm"
Final rate: 80/100
